There are many different kinds of cobras. Most of them are able to expand their ribs to create a hood at the neck (as shown in the picture). The word "cobra" is Portuguese for "snake".
These snakes have very deadly venom, but are not the most venomous. Some can even rise up to the height of an average full grown person and look them in the eye. The largest type of cobra is also the most commonly known type, the King Cobra. Habitat
King cobras live in the plains and rain forests of India, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Their coloring varies from place to place. They reside in the trees, on land, and in water.

Description
King Cobras can grow to 18 feet in length! They are carnivores with an average life span of 20 years when in the wild. These snakes have a specific marking on their back that was thought to be a mark of the Brahmin (an Indidan God).
